The conclusion of the newest “Star Wars” film trilogy at last has a title — “The Increase of Skywalker” — and a teaser trailer. We’re happy to report that Rey (Daisy Ridley) is completely embracing her Jedi future, wielding her gentle saber with self confidence, and gearing up to kick some Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) ass.
The spot does not expose a great deal in the way of plot and the only dialogue is voiceover from Rey’s late mentor Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). She remembers his steerage as she prepares for a battle, presumably with Ren. “We’ve passed on all we know,” Luke reminds his protégée. “A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your combat.” His phrases also assure Rey that she’s not on your own: she has her good friends and allies Finn, Rose, and Poe (John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, and Oscar Isaac), not to mention her recollections of Luke. “We’ll constantly be with you,” he guarantees, “no one’s at any time genuinely gone.”
Lupita Nyong’o and Keri Russell also star in “The Rise of Skywalker.” The movie marks a key milestone: its next unit director, Victoria Mahoney, is the initial black female to immediate on a “Star Wars” pic in the franchise’s 40-as well as year history.
“The Drive Awakens” and “The Final Jedi,” ended up the major-earning films of 2015 and 2017, respectively. They netted a merged $1.6 billion at the domestic box workplace and $3.3 billion around the world.
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” opens December 20. Look at out the teaser for a glimpse of Carrie Fisher’s Leia and to see Rey pull off some seriously extraordinary acrobatics.
